You can download a one page instruction sheet on how to run the icebreaker, ‘A Good Yarn’ from the link at the bottom of this page, or follow the instructions below.
Resources – several pieces of coloured wool of various lengths.
Preparation – gather several different coloured pieces of wool of various different lengths and screw them all up together until they make a ball.
Instructions – hold the coloured ball of wool in your hands and ask each participant in turn to pull out a piece.
As they pull out the piece they should tell the group their name and something about themselves. They can only stop talking once the entire length of their piece of string is removed from the ball.
This icebreaker has a great comedy edge as some people will be left pulling a very long piece of wool and will have to tell a lot about them self.
Objectives:
This icebreaker serves as an alternative method of getting participants to talk about themselves.
